How to Check the Expiry Date of Your DSC

Knowing your DSC expiry date is essential for timely renewal — an expired DSC can block you from filing critical compliance documents at the worst possible time. Here are three different ways to check your DSC expiry date, from quickest to most detailed.

Method 1: Check via Token Manager Software

The fastest method — no portal login required:

• Insert your USB token into the computer
• Open the token manager software: ePass2003 PKI Manager, SafeNet Authentication Client, or Proxkey Manager
• Navigate to Certificates or Token Contents section
• Click on your certificate — the details panel will show Valid From and Valid To (expiry) dates
• The "Valid To" date is your DSC expiry date

Method 2: Check via Windows Certificate Manager

• Insert your USB token and press Win + R, type certmgr.msc, press Enter
• Expand Personal → Certificates in the left panel
• Your DSC will be listed — the Expiration Date column shows the validity end date
• If the date is red or past today's date, the certificate has expired
• Right-click → Open → Details tab for more certificate information including the issuing CA

Method 3: Check via Government Portal Profile

• On the Income Tax portal: Login → My Profile → Register DSC — the registered certificate details including expiry will be shown
• On the MCA portal: Login → Manage DSC — shows current registered DSC with expiry
• On the GST portal: Login → My Profile → Register/Update DSC — current registered certificate details visible
• If the portal shows a warning about an expiring or expired DSC, it is time to renew

Set a Renewal Reminder

• Check your DSC expiry today and note the date
• Set a calendar reminder 45 days before expiry
• Start the renewal process at least 30 days before expiry — video verification and issuance typically take 24–48 hours

An expired DSC does not cause legal problems retroactively — documents you signed before expiry remain valid. But from the expiry date forward, you cannot sign new documents or access signing-required portal functions until a new DSC is issued and registered. Proactive renewal is always the best approach.
